A Variety of Volunteer Opportunitites
CVABE volunteers work in conjunction with our Teacher/Community Coordinators to access local resources and move the community toward full literacy.
CVABE offers a variety of volunteer opportunities, and we are eager to hear about your ideas for innovative activities we can pursue to better promote literacy in central Vermont.
Teaching
Many volunteers are tutors, helping adult students with reading, writing, and math; helping a student learn English as a new language; supporting a student’s progress in getting a high school diploma or equivalent (GED); or working with parents who are building skills in order to read with his children. Computer-savvy volunteers are assisting students as they learn basic computer applications, keyboarding, internet searches, and email.
Activities with Students
Volunteers participate in activities with students, working with reading and discussion groups, going on field trips and other events which reinforce student learning and engagement with his/her community.
Training and Professional Development
Volunteers offer workshops on topics in which they are trained or have expertise. Whether targeted to students, staff or volunteers, a volunteer’s special skills help CVABE better serve its communities. |
